The Truth About Making Gold in World of Warcraft

For any player whether new or old, you need gold to do things in World of Warcraft. And before I tell you about the Xelerated Warcraft Guide for making gold, let me tell you some interesting facts.

Unfortunately, the economy in WoW is much like the one in the real world. Did you know that only 5% of the players on each server have over 90% of all the gold on that server? This is because most WoW players think they just have to farm gold in World of Warcraft and do daily quests for endless hours to make a lot of gold while the real rich players exploit and profit on the hard work of these players.

The traditional ways that people tell you to make a lot of gold; farming and daily quests, are just not good ways to make gold. They never were. These methods require a lot of time and energy on your part. And let’s face it, no one who has over 200,000 gold did it by farming and doing daily quests. Just think about the rich people in your town. They certainly don’t do any hard manual labor. So what are the ways that these rich players use to make money? Well, they are much more simpler than you think.

I can’t tell you the methods specifically talked about in the guide (since I would get in trouble if I did that) but I can tell you my version of a gold making guide I used to make gold before I started using this guide. I wasn’t crazy wealthy but I still had about 20,000 gold for all my characters combined. (About 5,000 gold each)

  • Buying and Reselling on Auction house: You see this method being talked about a lot on the internet so people either kind of ignore it or try it but then don’t really know how to do it properly. I personally found it not really useful to directly buy things from the AH and resell them for profit using the auctioneer add-on. Don’t get me wrong, people definitely have success doing this but it just wasn’t the right method for me. What did work for me though was to buy raw materials like herbs or uncut gems and resell them after cutting the gem or making a potion using my professions. If you think about it. It really makes sense. It’s kind of the same thing as farmers who grow flowers and a florist shop that buys those raw flowers and sell them for 20 times the original price on a vase. And even in World of Warcraft, you really make “contracts” with a crazy herber who gives you constant supply at a discounted price.
  • World of Warcraft Exploits: So time to time, you’ll find some game content that you can take advantage of to make money. Certain classes are able to solo raid bosses and end game content and gain all the gold and loot that a boss drops (you could even get a boe item). You might be thinking…well I don’t have a character that can do that. Unfortunately, it’s true, that you can’t do a dungeon chest run if you’re not a rogue but if you want to level a character to try it out then you can take comfort in that you can level in under 4 days by using the World of Warcraft leveling guide by Xelerated Warcraft Guides. For me, before they lowered the gold drop from some bosses, I would solo on my paladin, all the old game content like Molten Core, Onyxia (before new Onyxia), ZG, Magtheridon etc. in about 2 hours/week and get about 2,000 gold. There were other things like ICC trash mob solo for boe epics which sold for 5,000 to 10,000 gold or epic gem solo in Black Temple back in the days. Basically, these exploits are seasonal but if you catch the right time, you could make a LOT of money in a short period of time.

If you are in a public raid and you win an item with a high roll, some times people may be interested in buying the item from you (especially PVP items because they take a lot of arena points to buy which are capped/week). I’ve personally sold a pvp chest piece for 5,000 gold on the spot to another player. But here’s the point: you want to be the guy who is paying 5,000 gold to buy the gear for your convenience because you just have a lot of gold and 5,000 gold is nothing.

Simple, useful, overlooked free World of Warcraft leveling tips

Here are some free tips that form the basis of the Xelerated Warcraft Guide. Whether you are a world of Warcraft player who is just starting out or someone who has played the game for years, we all have to do one thing sooner or later: level our characters. Since blizzard first released World of Warcraft, there have been many expansions and the most recent expansion, Cataclysm, has a level cap of 85 which can be somewhat daunting.

From my experience, I found that a people tend to focus on the big things that’ll cut down on their leveling time (like getting best weapon to kill faster, using enchants/potions) so much that they forget about the “small things” that are actually what drains majority of their play time.

If your goal is to level the fastest so that you can get to the end-game content right away, then it really is all about time management and efficiency. Let me explain:

#1 Farming Gold in World of Warcraft

Some might disagree, and some might prefer to take the extra time because it really does add up BUT if you simply want to level fast, you have to STOP looting all your mobs (especially if you are a ranged character). Even with an add-on that auto loots for you, looting all the thousands of mobs you will be killing in the process of getting to level 85 will take up more time than you think.  Let’s say you kill 10,000 mobs (which are only like 120 mobs you kill on average per level….so a gross under estimation…but it will serve my point) and it take about 5 seconds to loot each one. That will take you, in the long run, a whopping 14 HOURS of playing time. Of course, its true that you missed out on couple thousand gold as well as possibly some epic boe drops but hey you could make a lot more in 14 hours at max level. Remember, point of leveling is NOT a gold making guide.

#2 Understimating Travel Time

Think about all the time you spend traveling to purchase things in cities. There are multiple vendors who sell identical products and if you happen to only know the one that hides deep inside the city, it can seriously take up some time especially at low levels. The way to solve this is so remarkably simple: create another character with all the gold that will be a “mule” for your main character. Because blizzard made item and gold transfer to same account characters instant, this is an absolute must. Instead of searching for an item on the AH or buying a reagent with your main character by traveling all the way back and forth, all you need to do is log onto your “mule” and mail it over for you to pick up in whatever zone you are in.

#3 Being a *** about using hearthstones

When I first started playing, for some weird reason I would always tell myself ‘no I have to save my hearth stone’ and never actually use it. Well, back then the hearthstone cool down was 2 hours long. But now it’s 30 minutes! The only advice here is, USE IT whenever you can.

#4 Relying on methods not under your control

So with the new changes, you can level your characters through battleground and the random dungeon system. This definitely adds some flavor to the conventional questing or grinding in different leveling area but also gives rise to too many variables. It’s true, these methods can be a viable way to level fast if you have a really good group that efficiently speeds through dungeons or wins battleground matches but unfortunately we all know that the world is not an ideal place, even in the World of Warcraft. Some days you’ll finish one dungeon in 30 minutes, another day it might take you 2 hours because it’s a fail group.

I’m definitely not saying, you shouldn’t be dungeon or pvp or loot your mobs. It’s part of the game and we all know sometimes we need a break from quest leveling. But if you want to get your characters to level 85 faster, then try out some of these tips.
